Can you repair individual fence posts or panels, or do I need a full replacement?

You do not always need a completely new fence. In many cases, it is perfectly possible – and often more cost effective – to repair the problem areas and extend the life of your existing boundary. At York Fencing, we regularly carry out repair work on individual posts, panels and sections of fencing across the city and surrounding villages.

If you have one or two panels that have blown out in a storm but the posts are still sound, we can usually replace the damaged panels on their own. This is a straightforward job and is often all that is needed to get your fence back into shape. Likewise, if a gravel board has rotted or cracked, we can fit a new one to protect the base of the fence and restore its strength.

Fence post problems are very common, especially with older timber posts. If a post has started to move or has rotted at the base, the rest of the fence can begin to lean or wobble. In some situations we can reinforce the existing post with a concrete repair spur, which is fixed alongside the timber and concreted into the ground to provide fresh support. Where the post has completely failed or snapped, it may be better to dig it out and replace it entirely.

There are times when repairs are not the best option. If several posts are rotten, many panels are warped or decayed, or the fence is an older, lighter duty style that no longer offers the privacy and security you want, a full replacement will usually give better long term value. Constantly patching a very tired fence can end up costing more over a few years than installing a solid new one.

When we visit your property, we will always be honest about whether repair or replacement makes more sense. We will look at the overall condition of your fencing, explain the options and provide prices for both approaches where appropriate. That way you can make a decision that suits your budget and your plans for the garden.
