When security is your priority, the strongest and most reliable fencing options are those that combine height, durability and minimal footholds. For domestic gardens, closeboard fencing remains one of the best security options. It is solid, difficult to climb and highly resistant to impact. With sturdy posts and gravel boards, it provides a secure boundary that discourages intruders.
Composite fencing is also an excellent choice for security because of its dense, interlocking structure. Composite boards create a rigid wall with no gaps, making it extremely difficult to climb or force open. Its long lifespan and low maintenance requirements make it popular for homeowners wanting a permanent security solution.
For properties requiring additional security—such as homes backing onto open land or alleyways—we can add features such as trellis toppers, which increase height while reducing climbing grip, or reinforced gate locks for side access areas.
Height is one of the most effective deterrents. A fence up to 2 metres high (the maximum allowed without planning permission in most back gardens) is usually sufficient to discourage intruders. Smooth surfaces on the outer face of the fence also limit climbing opportunities. Good quality gates with secure locks complete the system.
During a survey, we assess the layout of your garden, exposure to public areas, visibility and any existing weak points to recommend a fence design that maximises security while still looking attractive.
