What type of fencing is best for small gardens?

Small gardens benefit from fencing that maximises space, enhances light and adds structure without feeling overwhelming. For these spaces, slatted fencing is extremely popular because the gaps allow light to pass through, making the garden feel larger and more open. Narrow-slat designs provide privacy while still offering a bright, modern look.

Decorative panels with geometric or lattice-style designs also work well in compact gardens, adding visual interest without blocking light. These panels can be used as feature screens behind seating areas or planting beds.

If privacy is important, closeboard fencing can still be used effectively, but choosing a lighter colour stain or adding trellis sections can stop the boundary from feeling too heavy. Composite fencing is a great choice too, especially in anthracite or lighter wood tones, as its clean lines suit modern, compact spaces.

When designing fencing for small gardens, we focus on creating clean, balanced layouts that increase both function and visual appeal. During the survey, we can recommend styles that make your garden feel more spacious while still giving you the privacy you need.
