How long do composite fences last?

Composite fencing is designed for long-term performance and typically lasts 20 to 30 years or more when installed correctly. It is one of the most durable fencing materials available, offering exceptional resistance to rot, warping, moisture, insects and fading.

Unlike timber, composite boards do not absorb water, meaning they will not swell, soften or crack due to York’s damp climate. They also retain their colour far better than timber, reducing the need for repainting or staining.

The lifespan of a composite fence also depends on the quality of the substructure. Strong composite or aluminium posts, reinforced rails and proper installation techniques ensure the fence remains structurally sound for decades.

Maintenance is minimal—usually just an occasional clean with warm water and soap. No chemical treatments or preservatives are needed.

Because composite lasts so long and requires so little upkeep, many homeowners consider it a cost-effective investment, especially for modern gardens or rental properties where long-term durability is a priority.
