Can a fence be attached to a brick wall?

Yes, fencing can be safely attached to a brick wall using the correct fixings and brackets. This is a common method for gardens in York where brick garages, boundary walls or old garden structures form part of the perimeter. Attaching a fence to a wall can help close gaps, increase privacy or create a tidy boundary without installing extra posts.

Specialist wall plates or post brackets are used to anchor the fence securely to the brickwork. The strength of the fixings will depend on the condition of the wall, so we check for loose mortar, damaged bricks or instability before installing anything. If the wall is unsuitable for load-bearing, we may recommend installing a post slightly in front of it instead.

This method works well for both panel and closeboard fencing and helps create a seamless and secure finish. During your survey, we assess all structures to determine the safest and most practical way to integrate your new fence.
