How do you ensure fences are installed straight and level?

Achieving a perfectly straight and level fence requires precise preparation, careful measuring and professional installation techniques. Before we install any posts, we set out a string line along the boundary to create a visual guide. This ensures every post follows the same straight alignment and avoids the “wavy” or uneven appearance sometimes seen in poorly installed fences.

Each post hole is dug to the correct depth—usually around 600mm or more depending on the height of the fence—and the post is set using a level in multiple directions. Concrete is placed evenly around the post, ensuring it remains straight as it sets. We do not rush this part of the job, because the posts form the foundation of the entire fence.

For panel fencing, once the posts are secure, the panels can be slotted in straight away or fitted once the concrete has partially cured, depending on weather and soil conditions. For closeboard fencing, rails are fixed level and checked carefully before boards are installed.

We also take into account sloping gardens. In these cases, the fence may need to be stepped or raked depending on the gradient. Each step is measured precisely so the fence line remains visually consistent. All of this ensures a smart, professional finish that will stay straight for many years.
