Gaps at the bottom of a fence can compromise privacy, allow pets to escape and reduce visual appeal. They are especially common in gardens with uneven or undulating ground. We prevent these gaps using several proven installation techniques.
One method is using gravel boards. These can be fitted individually to match the contours of the ground, closing any spaces while keeping panels level. Concrete gravel boards are the most durable option, while timber and composite boards provide more decorative choices.
For significant dips or hollows, we may bury the bottom of the gravel board slightly underground or shape it to follow the ground line while maintaining structural integrity.
If using closeboard fencing, each board can be cut to length individually, making it ideal for gardens with varied levels. This allows for a perfectly tailored finish with no visible gaps.
Slatted and decorative fencing can also be adapted by adding bottom battens or custom infill sections to close small gaps without affecting the overall look.
During installation, we take accurate measurements of the ground profile to ensure the fence follows the terrain neatly while remaining structurally sound.
