Preparing your garden properly before a fencing installation helps ensure the project runs smoothly and avoids unnecessary delays. The good news is that most of the work is handled by us, but there are a few simple steps you can take to make the process easier.
First, clear the working area. Remove garden furniture, children’s toys, planters, bins or anything else positioned close to the fence line. The clearer the access, the quicker and safer the installation will be. If you have pets, ensure they are safely indoors or in a secure part of the garden while work is underway.
If your existing fence is covered with climbing plants, vines or shrubs, trimming these back before our arrival is very helpful. Heavy foliage can slow down removal of the old fence and may interfere with setting new posts. You do not need to remove entire plants unless you want to – just clearing the immediate work area is sufficient.
If your garden has raised beds, rockeries or newly planted borders close to the fence line, let us know during the survey. We can take extra care or adjust the installation method to avoid damaging them. In some cases, we may recommend temporarily lifting certain plants if they are positioned very close to the boundary.
Make sure access routes are clear. If materials need to come through the house, remove delicate items and place coverings on floors where needed. If there is a side passage or gate, check that it is unlocked and unobstructed.
You do not need to mark the boundary line or prepare the ground yourself – we handle all measurements, setting out and digging. If you are unsure whether something in your garden may affect installation, just mention it during the survey and we will advise accordingly.
A little preparation goes a long way. With a clear work area and safe access, your fencing installation will be efficient, tidy and problem free.
